Three, four and five piece rods should be assembled tip sections first.
Ferrules should be put together loosely first, then line up the guides and push the pieces together snugly.
Take care when stringing your fly
rod. DO NOT bend the tip when pulling the line
straight through the guides/snakes.
Spigot ferrules should have a gap of 1/8" to ®˜" between rod sections as this prevents the section from rubbing together and allows for future wear.
Periodically rub the ferrules (MALE SECTION) lightly with paraffin to ensure a snug
fit, as the second biggest cause of rod
breakage is from ferrules coming loose and cracking
the female section. CHECK THE FERRULES A FEW
TIMES DURING THE DAY TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE
SNUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Occasionally, wash your rod with warm soapy water and dry completely prior to putting away. A light coat of liquid furniture polish will enhance the rod finish.
Avoid placing your rod against metal
or abrasive objects as small nicks may result which
could lead to a weak spot and a broken rod
Lubricate reel seats with corrosion inhibitors to keep
from rusting/pitting.
Always transport or store your rod in its tube and sack as
damage often occurs to unprotected rods while travel.
AGAIN, To maintain the integrity of the ferrule, it is wise to check the ferrule connection throughout the day of casting/fishing so as to avoid ferrule separation and splitting.
Do no assemble rods indoors as many rods are
broken in ceiling fans and cabin screen doors.
Avoid severe rod angles when
fighting and landing fish. Snagged flies should
be broken off by pulling on the line with the rod tip
pointed at the snag.
